I graduated from college! For real. Graduated on Sunday, May 17. Sorry if my posts have been lacking this week (and most of May) as I finished school with finals and commencement.
I'm still blogging about my job search on the UWIRE-sponsored Help Wanted blog.
I'm starting some new reporting ventures, which I will update here once I have sorted them out.
OK, so everyone knows that Kris Allen is the new American Idol. This was the first season that I watched from beginning to end. I genuinely thought Adam Lambert and Kris should have been in the finals, and I liked Adam's performances, but I saw Kris as the better Idol.
The fifth season of So You Think You Can Dance started tonight! If you haven't watched this show before, start! It's the best show of the summer, and like Idol, is a competition show, meaning you don't have to get to know characters in the same way as a drama or comedy in its fifth season. AND Fox just announced SYTYCD in its fall lineup, meaning there will be back-to-back seasons of the show!!!
A little late, but here are the final dances of Dancing with the Stars. Shawn and Mark ended up winning (much to my delight), though I thoroughly enjoyed all three finalists. Make sure to check out the finalists on Good Morning America too!
Bernie Madoff's secretary of more than 20 years, Eleanor Squillari, co-authored a 9,000-word article in Vanity Fair's June issue. I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive.
American Idol sensation Adam Lambert is on this week's cover of Entertainment Weekly. Does this mean the magazine is endorsing him to take the title next week? I think (/hope) he's a shoe-in for the finale, but will he win?
In last night's semi-finals, everyone again danced twice. Melissa Rycroft and Tony danced the quickstep and the cha cha. Gilles Marini and his partner Cheryl Burke got two perfect scores for their waltz and salsa, which were absolutely amazing. Shawn Johnson and her partner Mark danced the argentine tango and the jive. Ty Murray and (fav.) Chelsie Hightower danced the samba and the viennese waltz. I love them all, I can't decide which one I want to go home tonight! For a full recap, click here.
JT certainly brought the laughs on SNL last night. The guy is so great! Below are a few of the sketches he performed. Be sure to watch the digital short about Mother's Day he did with Andy Samberg, the Surgery Center sketch and "Classic Peg!" Should he ever tire of the singing career, he should definitely consider joining the cast. Regardless, he needs to host at least twice every year. He's a natural, and has been since his Mickey Mouse Club days. Bravo, Justin.
Hmmmm ... Jessica Simpson is on the cover of Vanity Fair's June issue. I'm not exactly sure what to make of this. In the late 1990s I was a huge JSimp fan. That was pre-Nick Lachey, pre-"Newlyweds" on MTV, pre-Cowboy-dating drama, pre-fat scandal. Now, I'm not sure a shift to country music elicits the cover of VF. I guess I'll have to wait to read the article. Maybe it will make more sense after I read it. Thoughts?
Season 5 is coming to an end, and I'm expecting Wednesday's episode to set up a major cliffhanger for the final season. E! Online's "Watch with Kristin" already has sneak peeks up. Check them out!
I watched the results show tonight before I actually watched the performances. I don't think I'll be doing that again because now I know what happened as I write about the dances. Let's just say all my favorites are still in the competition, including Ty Murray and Chelsie Hightower (though I can't find their video clips). Each of the couples performed twice, so there are many videos below to watch. Shawn Johnson and her partner Mark danced the Paso Doble and the Quick Step. Melissa Rycroft (back from her injury last week) and partner Tony danced the Samba and the Viennese Waltz. Gilles Marini and partner Cheryl Burke danced the FoxTrot and the Rumba. My blogging self seems to be expanding daily. I am currently blogging at the UW-Madison School of Journalism's first annual ethics conference. Check it out!
